Meet the Innkeepers
Carol and Rod lived most of their married lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where they raised their two children, Shannon and Kevin. Rod worked for Piedmont Airlines, then USAir, and currently for American Airlines. Carol worked at Wake Forest University as an Administrative Coordinator in the Department of Music for 24 years. Now, as empty-nesters, and after falling in love with the mountains of Southwest Virginia, they began looking for a house suitable for opening a bed and breakfast, which had been a dream of theirs for a while. After much searching, they found the Collins House in Marion, which proved to be the perfect place for them. They are loving small-town life in Marion, where they feel so welcomed, and they also love the strong sense of community that Marion has. They are enjoying meeting all the wonderful guests who stay with them, as well as the process of finding ways to improve their services to make every guest experience a special time to remember.
The History of the Collins House
The Collins House was built in the Colonial Revival style by George Collins in 1926. George and his brother, Lewis Preston Collins, Sr. owned the Collins Brothers Department Store, which was in the building now occupied by the Moon Dog Brick Oven Restaurant. The house remained in the Collins family until 1965, when it was sold to Dr. Richardson, who with his son, operated their medical practices in the house for several years. Many local people have memories of visiting one of the Drs. Richardson in this house. In 2002, the house was purchased by Sheila Quattrocchi and Dave Fields, who completely renovated it and operated it as a bed & breakfast (The Collins House Inn) from 2007-2012. Susan and Mike Edwards bought the property and reopened the B&B as the Collins House Inn Bed & Breakfast in 2013, which operated until the spring of 2020. The house was vacant until purchased by the Brehms in June, 2021, and the B&B was reopened in November 2021 as the Collins House Bed and Breakfast.
